Our vision: Every person will have an understanding of and internalize his/her mortality and finitude in order to live more meaningfully

In Israel today there are approximately 1 million people who are elderly or living with chronic or life-threatening illness. Because the medical system focuses on physical treatment, patients and family members are left without a remedy for the emotional and spiritual difficulties they cope with such as loneliness and distress, family issues, loss of hope, identity and meaning, and real questions about end  of life that aren’t heard and responded to. The reasons for this are many and they include a lack of adequate training in these areas. Sadly, illness and loss are an inseparable part of our daily lives and there is a need for a support system, especially in times of crisis.

For these reasons, Life’s Door- Tishkofet (a US 501c and Israeli NGO) was founded in 2004 by Professor Ben Corn, MD, Director of the Institute of Radiation at Tel Aviv Medical Center-Ichilov Hospital, and his wife Dvora Corn, a family therapist. LDT promotes a social world view that seeks to expand possibilities of meaning and quality of life for people with life-threatening illness and the elderly and their families. Prof. Corn received the President of Israel Award for Volunteerism in recognition of the organization’s contribution to changing the lives of people facing illness in Israeli society. Our professional staff, all around the country, offers a range of programs that provide tools and support to the elderly, to people coping with illness, their families and professional caregivers, allowing them to grow and find hope and meaning in the face of illness and loss
Life’s Door-Gisha la’Chaim Tishkofet-Maagan is proud to have its Founder and Chairman, Prof. Ben Corn, MD awarded the Presidential Award for Volunteerism for 2011 for his extraordinary and unique contribution to Israeli society.
