H.U.G. stands for Holistic Understanding of Grief and that is what we do. HUG provides much needed services and direction for mothers, fathers, families, extended families and care-providers in the case of a stillbirth or infant loss.
We are a beacon in the darkness and confusion during and also following the loss of a baby.
HUG aims to provide:
- Specially trained Doula’s on call who can assist the family in giving birth to the baby
- A specially designed packet on information and resources for the family
- A teddy bear to take home from the hospital, so they don’t leave completely empty handed
- Carefully written children’s book written from a religious perspective on stillbirth
- Beautifully designed journals for parents to use to write down their process and feelings all proceeds to benefit HUG
- hotline with trained volunteers to counsel the family, specifically trained in grief over a lost baby
- Referral to sensitive Rabbinical support and Halachic questions
- logistical support including but not limited to, meals, child-care of older siblings, housecleaning and helping the mother recover after the birth
- physical care to the family, grief counselors, massage therapy and psychiatric care
- Support group for parents experiencing a pregnancy after their loss
- Guidance training and free seminars to support care providers and create a safe space for them to grieve as well
- Free educational seminars for Doctors, Midwives and Nurses with information about emotional support to provide for their patients
